intracomp.

jenova/nc 4 team consists of tiffany, huaxin, me, steffi, daphne, audrey and zhou tao. the original arrangement was like this:

footdrill: huaxin no.1, tiffany timer.
short case: me no.1, tiffany no.3
medium case: tiffany no.1, huaxin no.3
homenursing: tiffany nurse 1, me nurse 3

but tiffany couldn't go for the comp so the arrangement changed:

footdrill: huaxin no.1, me timer.
short case: me no.1, huaxin no.3, audrey no.2, daphne no.4
medium case: me no.1, huaxin no.3, steffi no.2, zhoutao no.4
homenursing: steffi nurse 1, me nurse 3, daphne nurse 2, zhoutao nurse 4

i only knew the new arrangement on thursday, which is two days before the comp. because i was sick on tuesday and wednesday. i was super super super nervous and had butterflies in my stomach the entire week.

plus there was a biology test on friday. i almost freaked out. seriously, i was prepared to give up the test for the comp. reason being:

i totally didn't want to disappoint our mentors. throughout comp trains, they (esp. sgt xinying) have been putting in plenty of effort to train us up. for anything we didn't understand, sgt xinying went through it from top to toe with PATIENCE.

i remember there was this one-of-the-last trainings, which i only went for after the bsp trip to wan qing yuan, sgt xinying gave us a lecture. turned out that after training jenova's std 2s and aegis's std 2s for homenursing, she discovered the distinct difference between both houses. aegis's std 2s had every word memorised whereas jenova's std 2s kept leaving out bits and pieces of text. she said that she didn't need us to win, and she doesn't expect it either, since miracles don't happen that fast (we have been performing really badly during comp trains), she just wants to see us putting in our best effort for the comp. she said that even cpl yingxiao, who was initially really enthuciastic about comp trains and winning for jenova, had lost his enthuciasm after looking at our performance.

that talk made me feel really bad. i was really occupied with school work and didn't put in effort to memorise first aid and homenursing. i'm sure the std 4s were even busier. but yet they still bothered to come down and train us. they could just leave us to die, but they didn't.

yup. on the last day of school, friday, which was one day before intracomp cum alc, i pia-ed the night through. had to pack bag for alc, prepare full u for intracomp, study for intracomp.

i called sgt xinying at 9pm to ask her questions on first aid but she was having tuition. so called her back at 9.30pm and went through practically the entire first aid manual with her. i think i heard her mom scolding in the background, but she still answered all my questions. she's really really really sweet! love sgt xinying loads!!

after consulting sgt xinying, i was super super touched by her patience and all the more i decided to pia the night through. thus despite the meagre one-hour sleep i had, i was really happy that i could say i put in my best effort on the knowledge part. i could only pray that i won't disappoint the mentors on the comp itself.

reached school at 6.30am and changed into full u. met mam sheryl, she wished qingyi and me good luck for the comp. i really like mam sheryl too :D

yup. then our mentors aka std4s gave us our gifts and postcards (:

the postcard i got was written by sgt xinying :D i shall not reveal the contents here because it's something she wrote to me personally. yup. i think it's really touching.

anyways. the morning before the comp was a really crappy one. i stained my uniform blue with the paint on the photoframe. plus some other malu incidents. got even more nervous than ever and wanted to just die..

in the waiting room, our team discussed on the cases that might be out for both homenursing and first aid. plus i was really scared that i'll mess up on footdrill timing because i have no sense of rhythm at all. if i have to clap my hands at a constant rate, i will just go off beat in less than a min. so we also discussed how our footdrill timing should go. the team did a jenova whoosh. they really helped me calm my nerves down (:

soon after, we had to go for short case.

super flop. two kids fell from the obstacle course. the one daphne and i went to had a contusion wound on his forehead and a sprain. the casualty kept saying he felt giddy and wanted to vomit. i knew it couldn't be that simple, so i went to suspect skull fracture, cerebal compression and concussion. for concussion, i only memorised the symptom of loss of memory. so sir yuanwang hinted that that wasn't the only symptom. so i diagnosed concussion. because i took such a long time to realise it's concussion, daphne called the ambulance only after around 4mins ):

turned out that the other pair had trouble too. huaxin diagnosed the incision wound on the leg as laceration because the make-up plasticine had jagged edges to make it stick to the person's leg.

sigh. throughout the whole case, we could see the std4s' disappointed faces. i really wanted to cry ):

homenursing. zhoutao and me took a bedsheet too short and we took a really long time to tie it. but at least knowledge-wise we didn't leave out anything. for steffi and daphne, i think they did not bad because the std4s were smiling :D

footdrill. sir cheehoe said we were not the best nor the worst. they agreed that we were qi2 but not forceful enough, unlike dactyl and benedictus. all six of us thought that we did badly but sgt xinying said we did much better than during comp trains :D

medium case. zhoutao and me took the heart attack casualty. thank god the relative came over just as i couldn't find the aspirin on the casualty. the aspirin was with the relative. we fed the casualty and she fell into cardiac arrest blah blah blah. i diagnosed heart attack and cardiac arrest while zhoutao did cpr on the dummy.

huaxin and steffi took the casualty with a burn and fracture. while zhoutao did cpr, i went over to help them. i checked for burns to airway but didn't have. there was a deformity on the left lower arm which was not treated so i asked huaxin why. she said that they didn't know what was the injury. i told her it was a fracture but she said that she checked for angulation and shortening of limb but both were absent. i was quite surprised and stunned for a moment. steffi was about to treat it as a burn when i told them to treat it as a fracture. huaxin insisted that there was no angulation and shortening of limb so i told her it doesn't mean that without angulation and shortening of limb, it's not a fracture.

yup. by then, zhoutao finished cpr and i went back to put the casualty in recovery position. checked for shock blahblahblah. wanted to cover with blankets but realised that there was a do-not of shock saying cannot cover with blankets too thick. then sir dickson asked whether we thought covering with bandages was the best way, so i said about the do-not. then i called for final report and gave summary. had to give summary in front of the whole room, i was really scared because the std4s were watching as well.

evaluation. sir junyang said that i needn't have checked for burns to airway but till now, i still think it's correct. yup. then he said that we talked too much, he just wanted to see action. the std4s looked shocked. sir dickson said that it was good we could give the reason of not using blankets :D

back to waiting room. our team agreed on how we watched the std4s' reactions rather than the judges. we were more worried about whether they will be disappointed in us anot. yup. and we heaved a sigh of relief that we finished all the components and gave a jenova whoosh!

during mealtime, sgt xinying said that i did a good thing during medium case, which was the one i told them it's a fracture. so we treated the injury as a fracture earlier than the other teams. although it was only a small small compliment, i was really happy :D

hongsheng watched our footdrill and cases i think. he didn't see homenursing but he heard from sgt xinying that we did well. so he said that we might have a chance of getting third or fourth if homenursing was really well done.

i was quite demoralised because i thought the most we could get was third, and that was on the condition that our homenursing was much better than the rest.

>>> fast forward to last day of ALC, prize-giving.

i was super scared and nervous. i SERIOUSLY.REALLY.TOTALLY wanted to let our mentors be proud of us and not feel disappointed. i wanted to let them know that our team really put in effort and appreciate all the hard work they put in for us too.

yup. so i was praying super hard when the third position was going to be announced. because that was our only hope.

short case both our team and mentors agreed it was a flop. footdrill we were average only. medium case i seriously thought we did well but steffi and huaxin didn't think so, sir junyang's comments hinted that he thought we were acting smart, and the std4s looked like they thought we did average only. so homenursing was our only hope.

when they announced that third position went to dactyl, i was on the verge of crying. all that was in my mind was that i let our mentors down.. all the effort that they put in have gone into the drain.

BUT TURNED OUT THAT WE GOT SECOND!!

i dunno what was in my mind then. because i cried even harder when i knew that we got second. it felt like a gush of blood just rushed up to my brain and the nerves sent water down my eyes. super embarrassing la. the whole corps was there. sir yuanwang, who was giving out the trophies, said "like that also cry..". ohwells. he only need to see cadets do cases, how would he know all the effort we put in.

anyways. sgt xinying told us that "you all did it!". i could only *sniff*. sgt xinying patted me and said that at least my 1-hour sleep hadn't gone to vain. i was super glad that we hadn't let the mentors down (:

i didn't really get to see the results in detail. but i know that we got second for homenursing, third for footdrill and first for medium case.

sgt xinying said medium case saved us!

i knew sir junyang was mean with his words but would still give us the marks :D

ALC.

just to sum up. jenova really chiong-ed and pia-ed for all activities. thus, in spite of the evil voting out system, we manged to achieve our 3rd consecutive year of ALC CHAMPION!! it was a narrow win though, we only beat serriphos by 1 mark! no more voting out system next year please!

i shall describe some of our activities briefly.

the illusion

cheering competition! a scary one because jenova's std4s all suddenly disappeared to go for some interview! we had our cheers already but we needed to add in all the actions in 7 mins. so hongsheng and i started adding stupid actions for the cheers hurriedly. after time's up and dactyl started to "perform", jenova's std4s came back and we didn't have enough time to teach them all the actions. so during the competition, they watched the rest of us and followed suit.

when we went back to our seats, sgt tienleng said "that's the way!" i thought we did well! but in the end voting out none of the houses voted for us. i was thinking, "we did that badly ah?" but in the end we topped the cheering competition! we even won the ELDARS! *wow*

amazing race

jenova used joker for this activity and we seriously chiong-ed everywhere. we thought we reached first but turned out to be the eldars. plus ALL tribes voted us out so we only got 8 points instead of 12 ):

the exile

urban hike at orchard! jenova's facilitator was sir weilong again! we danced the three bears dance at almost everywhere! somerset mrt, underpass, outside heeren, etc. all of us enjoyed it so much that we didn't feel embarrassed at all :D sir weilong covered his face with the banner and said that he felt more embarrassed than we do. yup. we did mtvs, shi2 zi4 lu4 kou3, blablabla.

this year's urban hike much more fun than last year's!

yup. sgt xinying said that she was really happy because the whole house put in lotsa effort for the camp. as for cpl yingxiao, our dear house leader, we could see his happiness when he went up to get the prize for jenova being alc champ :D std3s, we did well in letting the std4s enjoy their last ALC!!

hm. it's really maddening. we got second for the overall house system again! in 2oo4, we got CHAMP. in 2oo5, we got second. now in 2oo6, we got second again!! when will our house name be carved on the house shield again?!

6K CHALET.

brief sum-up. we went to coasta sands chalet near pasir ris park. the boys played xbox while the girls chatted. then we went to arcade. off to pastamania at tampines mall for dinner. went to arcade, followed by movie "the nun" at 9.40pm. then took cab back to chalet.

i posted this long long post because i am going to south korea tomorrow night! this june is a really hectic one for me.

OMG la. this schedule doesn't even include stjohn activities! i am going to miss public duty on 6th june (anyone can sub me pls?) plus kayaking course on 15th and 16th june ): i can forget about my homework already..

the only thing i am happy about this holiday is that i won't see you that often. but still.

i dunno why. with some ppl, even some who i just met, i can just express myself without hesitation. with others, even after knowing them for as long as 2.5 years, i still find it difficult to say what i truly feel.

initially, i thought it was because i don't trust ppl easily. but come to think of it, there are plenty of ppl i trust! primary school friends i keep in contact with most like janice, simphoni. 11 out of 19 2do5 girls. 9 out of 15 2d05 guys. even ppl in 3b, i trust jolenelai, kailin, etc. as for squadmates, i think i trust almost all of them.

yup. i even trust boys (although only from 2do5 and those from my squad). i am not close to some of them, but they just give me the feeling that they can be trusted.

hm. i know i can be really hostile to some ppl. that'll be because you are not on the list of ppl i like, nor the list of ppl whom i can trust. but don't have to mind so much la. it doesn't necessarily mean that you are a bad person. it just means that in my eyes, you are not a gd person.

if i don't think you are a gd person, i can't possibly force myself to be nice to you right?
